Remember Spiro Agnew, Nixon's VP? Maybe the only thing you remember about him is that a) he was another political crook and b) he uttered the famous phrase, written by speech writer William Safire, "nattering nabobs of negativity", referring to the media and press corps, in 1970.
The ghost of Agnew is roaming the halls of medicine, whispering incantations of despair, hopelessness, and cynicism. Once again, the sky is falling, things are terrible and only morons would go to medical school.
